Against the backdrop of a global rise in demand for energy efficiency, environmental protection, automation, and digitalization (IoT), the need for high-quality power control is growing. This is exactly where the new KRIWAN frequency converter comes in.

Our goal is to develop a complete system for the entire drive train - from sensor technology and motor protection to control and networking. The frequency converter ideally complements our existing areas of expertise and makes the KRIWAN portfolio even more comprehensive: With the combination of sensor technology, motor protection, and now frequency converters, we offer our customers a comprehensive, future-oriented portfolio of solutions.

 

Our entry into the world of frequency converters

By entering the world of frequency converters, we are strategically expanding our portfolio in the very areas where KRIWAN has been at home for years: in demanding applications and industries that rely on robust, reliable, and durable solutions. Our approach is clearly structured and consistently focused on practical benefits.

 

Product series up to 15 kW

We’re starting with our own series of variable-frequency drives up to 15 kW, with a clear focus on robust, practical features and easy integration.

Target Industries

We develop this product family specifically for the applications in which we have already built up a deep understanding of the systems and extensive application expertise. This ensures that functions, interfaces, and protection concepts are tailored to real-world requirements from the very beginning - not just to technical data sheets. 

Designed for rotating equipment and drive technology - so that functions, interfaces, and robustness precisely match the typical requirements of these applications.

Development status

The product family is currently under development; the concept, hardware/software, and application design are being finalized in stages. The next step is the testing and validation phase, which will be carried out in collaboration with partners and customers. Extensive testing under real-world conditions ensures reliability, thermal performance, and compliance with relevant standards and EMC requirements.

 

And because requirements are rarely “off-the-shelf,” we think ahead from the very beginning: In addition to our standard product line, we offer both E²MS services and custom solutions—ranging from hardware and software customizations to integration into existing systems and applications.

At KRIWAN, we define e²ms as the seamless integration of engineering and manufacturing. Development and production are fully integrated at KRIWAN: circuit design, layout, firmware, and test concepts are developed with quality and manufacturing in mind from the very start.

We then reliably manufacture your power electronics - from prototyping and validation through to series production. For you, this means: less coordination effort, lower risks, faster time-to-market, and a single point of contact throughout the entire product lifecycle.

KRIWAN INTdrive

The KRIWAN frequency converter is specifically designed to meet the requirements of industrial applications and our core markets. 

Flexibility

A key feature is flexibility: expandable plug-in modules enable connectivity to preferred protocols and interfaces, as well as adaptation to various applications. This allows the frequency converter to be seamlessly integrated into existing system architectures and expanded as needed to meet future communication requirements.

Durability

When it comes to durability, we rely on high-quality system components that are specifically designed for long-term use in industrial environments. Our goal is to ensure reliable operation over many years, even under high thermal and mechanical stresses.

Robustness

Its robustness is evident in its high power capacity and overload capability, integrated fan monitoring, and design for ambient temperatures up to 60 °C. It is also designed for use in demanding protection classes such as IP54. This makes the frequency converter ideal for use in harsh environments, such as those commonly found in refrigeration and water technology.

Low EMC emissions

Another key factor is low EMC emissions. A specialized system solution featuring a multi-level topology reduces electromagnetic interference. This facilitates integration into sensitive environments, simplifies compliance with EMC requirements, and contributes to an overall low-interference system environment.

Network Diagnostics

To ensure stable system operation, the frequency converter features built-in power grid diagnostics. Integrated monitoring and analysis functions enable early detection and targeted evaluation of power quality and faults. This is supplemented by real-time diagnostics with timestamps, allowing fault events to be tracked in detail and their causes to be analyzed efficiently.

Control system

In this control system, KRIWAN relies on a combination of precise power control and intelligent operating point monitoring. The control parameters can be dynamically adjusted to the actual operating point. This supports energy-efficient, gentle, and application-optimized operation of motors, compressors, and pumps.

Starting up

To simplify start-up, characteristic curves can be stored so that the frequency converter automatically adapts to the motor. This automatic adaptation reduces the effort required for parameterization, minimizes sources of error, and speeds up the transition from installation to productive operation.

KRIWAN as a system partner

With its new frequency converter, KRIWAN aims to provide its customers in the HVAC (refrigeration compressors) and water/wastewater (pumps) markets with a comprehensive, future-proof range of systems. The combination of sensor technology, motor protection, and frequency converters makes it possible to view and optimize the entire drive train from a single source.
