MINTSetter City Opens: A Beacon for Young Tech Enthusiasts in Öhringen
With great excitement, a project was officially opened on [insert event date] that is likely to have an impact far beyond the city of Öhringen: MINTSetter City – a modern maker space in the heart of the city, offering young people a place to explore, experiment, and innovate.
What started about a year and a half ago as a simple idea to transform an unused storage room at GSOE into a small student workshop has now become a true flagship project for the Hohenlohe region. Originally named “SchülerUni” (Student University), the project evolved into “SchülerLAB” and finally into MINTSetter City, reflecting a growing vision and ambition.
It quickly became clear during the initial planning phase: a space like this needed to be centrally located, easily accessible, well equipped, and open to students of all educational backgrounds in order to attract a diverse range of young people.
A Space for Ideas – Open to Everyone
With MINTSetter City, this vision has now become reality. The new space invites students to dive into the world of technology, far removed from the confines of school curricula. The Friedrich Kriwan Foundation has supported the project from the very beginning – not only financially, but also with heartfelt commitment.
“Technology must serve people.” This guiding principle came from Friedrich Kriwan, founder of the KRIWAN Group. As a passionate engineer, he believed deeply in the power of technical education and worked tirelessly to inspire young people – especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. For him, education was the key to equal opportunity.
This belief is deeply rooted in the Foundation’s mission, and MINTSetter City is a living example of how that mission is being fulfilled today.
€250,000 in Funding for the Future
To ensure the project’s long-term success, the Friedrich Kriwan Foundation has committed to performance-based funding totaling €250,000 over the next five years. An initial €50,000 has already been transferred as seed funding to the Innovationsregion.
Special thanks go to project manager Thomas Matscheko, whose tireless dedication played a major role in bringing this idea to life.
