Protecting pumps while capturing data - Simplifying digitization

Pumps and agitators are the heart of a system, forming a process together with other components where all information converges in a central control and automation system. For the operator, integrating pump or agitator data into their system is valuable, providing early information, for example, in case of motor overheating or bearing damage, allowing proactive measures before failures occur (Predictive Process Control). Predictive maintenance becomes feasible through early warnings, enabling targeted service interventions. Simultaneously, a local protection concept is required, operating independently of networked systems to ensure protection against malfunctions or cyber attacks.

The INT69 YF Diagnostics protection device offers the ability to globally utilize pump data while not neglecting the local protection concept. KRIWAN develops and produces its protection devices in Germany, meeting high-quality standards for industrial motor protection concepts. To assist customers on their path to digitization, all protection devices are equipped with microprocessors. Thus, the INT69 YF Diagnostics is more than a simple pump protection; it can provide measured values and operational data of the pump via a digital interface and a gateway, such as Modbus RTU.

Integration into existing monitoring systems

Pumps equipped with this KRIWAN protection device can be easily networked later without compromising the existing protection concept. This allows leveraging the benefits of digitization with various business models without establishing a second elaborate measuring system on the pump.

Local access to pump data via the KRIWAN INTspector App

For cost or technical reasons, not all pumps are always networked, and they may miss out on the advantages of remote monitoring. To still obtain information about operational data in the event of a service issue, users can access the pump's protection device locally and directly using the KRIWAN INTspector App. Users can read diagnostic data, display datasheets, interpret LED blink sequences, or even configure the protection device.

The app's diagnostics provide an overview of the pump's operational behavior during a service intervention. Helpful features like operating data, error lists, error counters, operating hours, switching cycles, current measurements, and more assist in detailed analysis. Using the Live Diagnostics, all measured values can be recorded over an extended period and saved on a device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop) as a CSV file, eliminating the need for additional measuring equipment and utilizing the device as a data logger. For documentation or as evidence for third parties, a PDF report can be generated, encompassing all diagnostic data and settings of the INT69 YF Diagnostics protection device.

Through parameterization, each input in the protection device can be individually configured. For instance, temperature inputs can be selected between PTC, PT100, PT1000, and bimetal. If an input is not used, it can be set to disabled. Parameterizing warning, set, and shutdown values, trigger delays, as well as re-engage delays or a locked shutdown without automatic reactivation per input is also possible. This allows individual adjustment of each parameter value for any application. To save time in recurring applications, parameter files can be created, saved, and loaded onto other protection devices via the INTspector App.

The KRIWAN INTspector App is available on all major app stores, including Google, Windows, and Apple.

7 in 1 – Optimizing space in the control cabinet

The KRIWAN INT69 YF Diagnostics multi-protection device replaces up to 7 simple devices. The inputs include 3x temperature for motor and bearing, 2x leakage for conductivity measurement and float switch, 1x 4-20mA analog input for vibration sensors, and 1x phase monitoring, encompassing phase sequence, phase failure, phase asymmetry, and over- and under-voltage. An alarm and a warning relay ensure operational safety and shutdown within the pump's safety chain or provide advance warning. Additionally, monitoring can be done for switch frequency, operating hours, short circuit, and sensor interruption. With a housing width of only 45mm and the multitude of inputs and functions of the INT69 YF Diagnostics, operators save significant space in the control cabinet compared to conventional protection concepts.
