Robust stand‑alone sensor solution for direct integration into the safety chain
With KRIWAN level sensors, scroll compressors and HVACR systems are protected against failures caused by insufficient lubrication. Compressor damage such as bearing damage is prevented and downtime is minimized.
Scroll compressors rely on reliable oil supply and oil return. In increasingly inverter‑driven systems, oil can remain in the refrigeration circuit at low speed and may not return sufficiently to the compressor. In tandem, rack or skid applications, oil distribution becomes more complex, so individual compressors can reach critically low oil levels.
Alternative refrigerants impose additional requirements depending on oil and system design. Piping layout, elevation differences and line lengths further increase the risk of insufficient
lubrication, damage and downtime.
The optical level sensors of the INT275–INT279 product family from KRIWAN monitor the oil level in scroll compressors without contact and with high reliability. They protect compressors and HVACR systems against damage caused by insufficient lubrication.
The devices consist of an optical screw‑in probe and a separate electrical evaluation unit. This physical separation enables a service‑friendly solution, as the evaluation unit can be replaced if required without evacuating the system.
The optical measuring principle detects whether the sensor tip is in a liquid or gaseous environment. At sufficient fill level, light pulses are refracted in the liquid. When the level drops, they are reflected and the relay switches off. When the level returns to the safe range or the fault disappears, the relay energizes again. Thanks to the volt‑free relay output, the level sensor can be integrated directly into the safety chain.
